Jon:
I am excited to be taking my family to Haiti. This has been an "out-there" dream of Karen and I for a long time. I put my faith in Jesus when I was eight years old and my life in Him has been a journey ever since. Some times of growth and other times of wandering. So now His journey takes us overseas.
Karen:
Four score and seven years ago (well, not quite) I was fascinated by basket-toting missionaries in weird clothes that would share how people in other countries live and how they would hear about Jesus through the pennies, nickels, and dimes for the VBS offering clasped in my little hands. Fast forward to today, after several years of God pouring His heart for other people, other countries, and other missionaries into my own . . . I find myself in Haiti. I am humbled by the interest, encouragement, and support that many of our family and friends have expressed. Thank you for going with us!

I also want to dedicate this blog to my friend, Tracy, with
whom I have had a blogging feud for a few years. I basically refused to read her blog because
she lived only five miles away from me (OK, so I’m stubborn). When I told her of our plans to blog, she
issued a throw down when she said I would never blog, ever. So, this is for you, Tracy, not out of spite,
but out of necessity to share with others that are so graciously interested in
our journey.
Ellie (from November 2014):
Over the last month or so I have been asked the question "are you excited" time and time again. "yes" is my automatic answer. I am thrilled to have "no school" for six months (except for math), learn new languages, see the world, meet interesting people and most importantly draw closer to God and help others come to know him too. Being only 12 years old, I don't have many or any cool stories (yet) about mostly anything so I hope to change that while I'm gone.

If you don't know me personally very well because you're my folk's friends then I'll have you know that I do not like to write (this is a lot of work), eat new foods (I'm going to have issues), cook or the movie Bolt. I do enjoy playing volleyball, reading a classy book, or sketching.
